The Au Pair program, which originated in
France, is still very common today. French and Swiss Au Pairs
are typically motivated to come to the U.S. to perfect their
English. While English is taught in schools at a young age,
fluency is highly prized. It is common for these Au Pairs to
speak a third and even fourth language, which is typically
German, Spanish or Italian.
Traffic flows on the right side of the road in France and
Switzerland and most people have daily, unrestricted access to a
car. All of our available French and Swiss Au Pairs drive and
most have been driving for several years.
It is common for Au Pairs in Switzerland and France to gain
experience through babysitting. Some of these available Au Pairs
have experience as nannies, tutors and an Au Pair program in
another country.
Carri, a Host Mom with goAUPAIR, talked about the benefits of
having an Au Pair. She said her Au Pair "has been teaching our
toddler French and because my daughter is just learning to speak
and totally understands both languages, I am enrolling her in
French school throughout the school year."
