The areas I serve in Georgia
My territory is new and our area has minimal childcare and what they do have has huge waitlist. My area covers rural Georgia from just north of Macon GA all the way up to just north of Athens GA. If you could draw a circle between Atlanta and August. Though this is a rural area we are home to celebrity ball players, golfers and we are a vacation hot spot. Most of the host families and their au pairs are living on Reynolds Lake Oconee, a nationally recognized lake and golf community. https://www.reynoldslakeoconee.com
I am an executive officer in the Air Force Reserve, so I do a lot of event planning, instructing workshops from sexual assault response, resiliency training, leadership building courses involving conflict managment. I love my area of Georgia and meeting new families and being apart of the culture of my au pairs. I travel internationally multiply times a month and enjoy learning and seeing new things. Most of all I enjoy connecting new families with the program and their au pair.
My families have both host parents working in professions of dentists, builders, and lawyers. A few new host moms I will have are stay at home parents with just the other spouse working. The families children are from infant to teenagers. All of our au pairs right now are from Central and South America. Spanish is the second largest speaking language in the world, so most families enjoy this culture and the influence it has on their children. The au pairs here love the outdoors! From hiking, biking, swimming to attending local concerts and festivals. Since we are so small and intimate when a new au pair is arriving he/she already feels at home because every au pair in my cluster has reached out prior to their arrival. The au pairs do a welcome event such as a dinner or swimming pool party to meet and learn about the newest family addition.
Au Pair Cultural Activities
This is lake country in Georgia and outdoor activities are over the top.Our community is flourishing with rodeos, festivals, concerts, lake events, car shows, and farmers markets. This is the heart of America. I ensure all au pairs know every event happening the I can (just to many especially in summer months to list most of the time)so they can all go together. I recently did a Lakeside Concert Cultural event. It was a outdoor lakefront concert with an 80s band. There was blow up jump castles for the kids, food and drinks. We did a downtown arts in park festival for our family event. They had hundreds of vendors and car shows with arts and crafts. Since my region is new we have just done a couple events. I planned a rodeo event but it didn’t end up happening due to au pairs traveling and being out of town.

If they have a DL from their country they can drive here for up to 30 days, then must obtain a Georgia DL. No international driver license is required. The au pair must have there social security number to apply for a Georgia License. Over the age of 18 just needs to pass the written permit test, then can take the road courses test to obtain the actual drivers license a soon as the host family is comfortable. I recommend to all my host families to drive with the au pair until he/she has the actually obtains a Georgia drivers license. They cannot drive without a adult age 21 or older with a valid license on a learners permit.
Since we are so rural there is very minimal public transportation. Most host families in this region provide a car for the au pair. All the au pairs are friends here and offer each other rides and plan trips together.
The top school is University of Georgia, which is a cultural thing in itself here in Georgia.
We also have Emory University that offers an au pair specific course to obtain all credits in 2 nights a week for 8 weeks.
The au pairs really like the aupairclasses.com for first year to travel to another city and meet new au pairs to build connections.
An Au Pair will need to get a Social Security # before getting a bank account and driver’s license. Go Au Pair will provide a welcome packet with social security information, on the Au Pairs arrival. We advise Au Pairs to wait 10 days after arrival to get their social security number. You can make an appointment at a social security office, closest to your home.
