What our Host Families love about the Au Pair program
Local Area Representative in Los Angeles
Gina Smurthwaite
The areas I serve in California
My territory covers Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Santa Monica, Malibu, Encino, Glendale, Pasadena, Canyon Country, Thousand Oaks, Ventura, Santa Barbara
My name is Gina Smurthwaite. I have been a contract technical writer since 2002. I am active in my community: I helped to establish the Trails Advisory Committee in Thousand Oaks in 1989, and have adopted the Glider Hill trail system where I help keep trails open for equestrians, hikers, and mountain bikers. I also raise and release Monarch butterflies; I’ve released about 1000 in the last five years.
My favorite thing about being a LAR is all the wonderful au pairs and host families I have met over the years and still keep in contact with today.
I’m the local area representative (LAR) for Go Au Pair. I’ve been doing this for sixteen years now, and I really like it. I think the au pairs are awesome and the host families are amazing.
Au Pair Cultural Activities
Au Pairs are required to attend a number of Cultural Activities with their Local Area Representative and nearby Au Pairs to make sure they experience the local community and culture during their stay.
I always look forward to our monthly activities that include such things as The Getty Villa, horseback riding, the Griffith Observatory, and always lunch and good conversation. I like to see the au pairs enjoying each other’s company and becoming friends. It’s wonderful how this program brings people and cultures together.
